Illegal immigrants can get tax funded tuition without ever paying income taxes

The Dream Act, which grants in-state tuition to Maryland colleges to illegal immigrants, has a set of criteria required to qualify.

The main requirements include that the individual:

  • attended a secondary school in Maryland for at least three years
  • received a high school diploma or equivalent in Maryland
  • registers to attend a community college in Maryland not earlier than the fall 2011 semester
  • they or their parents file a Maryland income tax return for at least three consecutive years

The media has been repeatedly and incorrectly saying that the requirements state they must have PAID taxes. Unfortunately and not surprisingly, this is false information. For full article, see here.

Again, I see this more of an issue of the welfare state than one of immigration.

The actual impact of this would be totally offset if we stopped handing out free money left and right.
