News from the Shore

Wanted to bring some attention to this post from Steve Kline regarding a proposed federal projects in Ruthsburg. Kline takes Congressman Frank Kratovil to task for his involvement in bringing a proposed federal tactical center project to the Eastern Shore town.

It will be interested to see if this proposed project becomes an issue in the First District race...

In his district-wide mailer, Kratovil claims credit for bring the Security Center to the Eastern Shore after a posting a letter last Friday saying he will do whatever the local elected officials want him to do. Is that leadership?

Are they planning on destroying the beauty of Ruthsburg? I love that little village.

This is politics at its best. Scared by a "minority" group, people are scared to support the project. Threats of violence have surfaced against supporters. If this project is lost....every politician involved is to blame. Now, having said that, the blame is on the other side of the table too. The Feds need to be more forthcoming. Educate these people because the facility will not be what is being portrayed by the angry, vocal mob. The Congressman has just started his own undoing. He represents A LOT more people than this angry mob and now he can't take credit for the win and he will be labeled as responsible for its loss.

I believe strongly in a community's ability to determine the course of it's future. I have been to meetings about this facility, and would in no way characterize the opposition as being in the "minority."

If there have been threats of violence against anyone, regardless of their position on the issue, that is deplorable and counter-productive.

And while Kratovil certainly represents more than just Queen Anne's County in Congress, this is a community issue, and for the most part, the community has spoken. It has nothing to do with the good people of Perry Hall or Bel Air, nor Ocean City or Salisbury.

Decisions are made by those who show up, and while some may resort to using language like 'angry mob' to describe those that they do not agree with, the so-called angry mob have been the ones showing up.

Courage is the ability to stand up for what you think is right, regardless of those who stand against you. If those who support this project remain silent, they have only themselves to blame.

Bingo.

Public involvement in this type of activity is one of the things that makes us different from socialist and totalitarian regimes. Kratovil seems to be right at home in the current administration based on his actions here.
