The Picture Says It All
On the front page of yesterday's Baltimore Examiner, the headline reads "Biggest Tax Hike In Maryland History Passes". For fiscal conservatives such as myself, it was truly one of the sadder moments in Maryland's political history. Yet, for some reason, Governor Martin O'Malley seemed overcome with joy. Literally. Included in yesterday's article was a picture (shown appropriately to the left) of O'Malley at the signing ceremony for the new taxes. Does this look like a man pained that it came down to this tough political decision? No, he looks like a kid on Christmas morning. Heck, I am surprised he didn't light up a cigar in celebration.
Frankly, I am surprised O'Malley restrained himself through the first regular session without demanding these new taxes. January couldn't come soon enough for the governor this time around. He wanted Senators and Delegates in early to give him an early Christmas present. O'Malley couldn't have done this alone. This happened because of the rubber stamp of 24 Senators and 80 Delegates. And contrary to the lies and deceit spread by the likes of Tom Marr, Senators DeGrange and Astle didn't vote for these increases. That said, we cannot forget those who did endorse the largest tax increases in Maryland's history.
O'Malley can smile all he wants. I wish I could say the laugh is on the fools that voted for him. Unfortunately, we're all gonna pay for this. Big time.

Bud,
It is not a lie. DeGrange or Astle could have stopped this and they did not.
Your tortured justifications for the democrats are inane to say the least.
There are no such things as conservative democrats. Democrats want to grow government and when push comes to shove, when the votes are needed for cloture if not passage, the dems show their true colors.
Your support for a party that so clearly rejects your purported views calls your judgment into serious question.
Save the Tom Marr is a liar stuff for your next post at FSP where you may be more comfortable.
Wow Greg, I have never such vitriol from you. Perhaps you're trying to show off in front of Red Maryland crowd. First of all, your assertion that there are no conservative democrats is ridiculous on it's face. Second of all, considering you've been reading my blog entries for over a year now, you should know my ideology is far removed from that of Kujan and FSP.
Third, I stay a democrat so I can exercise my right to have a say in the primary. I enjoy voting. Registering as unaffiliated (as I really want to do)would preclude me from doing something I feel I've earned. I'll be the first to admit I am not a strong democrat. Those that read my stuff know that.
I must say I have zero interest in joining a republican party that's inept from the national level all the way into the depths of Anne Arundel County. The AA version of the party is a particular joke considering the clowns you have running the show.
I am not sure where you get the "showing off" thing. If you have been reading my blog then you know I am very much a conservative republican even to the point of wearing the company man brand as a badge of honor.
What galls me is that you rail against these tax increases then have a knee jerk defense of "conservative" democrats who could have stopped this by supporting the filibuster.
You have never truly and logically explained why they have upheld their purported anti-tax beliefs while voting for cloture. Many posts here and on O'Malley Watch call a spade a spade and point out that Astle and DeGrange, among others, let this happen.
You call this a lie for no good reason that I have read on this page.
Whether you are conservative or not you are a defender of the democrats who just did this to us. You have called those in talk radio and here who called them on it liars and you are surprised there is some blowback.
I am just shocked I am the only one with the balls to say what I know others are thinking.
Maybe because you're the one making a fool of yourself. There are some others hear that have read me in the Baltimore Sun talk board. The likely shrug when you question my conservative credentials.
You sir claim to be a conservative. I think you're a partisan first and foremost.
